Hydrangeas

The hydrangea flower originated in Japan, and was introduced into the UK in 1788.

Hydrangea means 'water barrel' and refers to the shape of the fruit after it has sprung open.

Hydrangeas come in a wide variety of sizes, shapes and colours.

Big leaf Hydrangeas are beloved for their large, rounded flower heads, which are actually composed of dozens of tightly clustered individual florets.

The showy hydrangea occurs in a range of colours, from common pinks and blues to more vivid purple, amethyst, and nearly red hues. Hydrangea flowers also come in white, which is exceedingly popular in bridal bouquets and other wedding decorations.
